Basic Laboratory Safety at a
Glance...
Remember my crazy chemistry peeps…
1.) BE RESPONSIBLE, NO GOOFING AROUND. PRACTICE GOOD SAFETY TECHNIQUES AT ALL TIMES!
2.) Follow directions! Make sure to read all directions BEFORE starting lab procedure. READ
labels before touching any chemicals to make sure you have the rightone!
3.) Do NOT touch ANY equipment unless given the okay by the teacher. DO NOT DO ANY LABS UNLESS INSTRUCTED TO BY THE TEACHER.
4.) ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD OR DRINKS IN LAB AREA AT ANY TIME….GUM IS INCLUDED!
5.) Practice good housekeeping at all times, clean up your lab station, and keep walk ways clear of any possible hazards. Chemicals ALWAYS STAY at your lab station.
6.) DISPOSE OF ALL WASTE PRODUCTS PROPERLY. Follow teacher’s instructions for waste
management.
7.) Avoid touching your face, eyes, mouth, and body while preforming labs to avoid any
chemical residue coming in contact and harming your body. Make sure to WAFT odors if smelling is necessary…DO NOT smell the chemicals directly…ever. Make sure NEVER to INGEST ANY CHEMICALS.
8.) YOU MUST HAVE GOGGLES AND AN APRON ON AT ALL TIMES IN THE
LABORATORY!
9.) Dress appropriately for laboratory experiments. Pull hair back and remove dangly jewelry. Make sure not to wear any baggy clothing and shoes must COVER your foot! NO SANDALS
allowed (please!).
10.) Report any and all accidents to the teacher (me).
11.) Remember HOT GLASSWARE does NOT look hot! Handle all glassware with caution and NEVER pick up any broken glass with your hands.
12.) HAVE FUN! There are many things to keep in mind for safety, but make sure you have FUN in the lab!
